KP Brehmer: The Artist as an Official?
Tuesday 4 November 2014, 6.30pm

Tuesday 4 November, 6.30pm

One of the most influential gallerists and publishers in post-war German art, René Block supported numerous artists associated with Fluxus, Happenings and Capitalist Realism, such as Joseph Beuys, Sigmar Polke and Gerhard Richter as well as KP Brehmer. Through his galleries and Edition René Block he fostered a view of art as an agent of social and political change.

Block, along with Petra Lange-Berndt (Lecturer, History of Art, UCL) and the exhibition's curator Doreen Mende, discussed the political relevance of KP Brehmer’s work and that of the Capitalist Realist generation. The talk was illustrated by a number of archival images and will be moderated by Raven Row’s director, Alex Sainsbury.
