Hyènes is an adaptation of Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s tragicomic play The Visit (1956), with added criticism of neocolonialism and consumerism in Senegal. A wealthy patron visits the near- bankrupt town of Colobane and offers to make the townspeople rich, in exchange for the life of a popular shopkeeper. The screening is introduced by composer and musician Wasis Diop, who is also the director’s brother, Hyénes actor Kaoru Egushi and June Givanni.
